Energy

Energy Management is one of the most challenging tasks facing managers in all sectors of the Guyana. But because of their busy schedules, they are only able to devote a small amount of time to administer it properly. This results in them often overlooking many energy saving opportunities that are readily available. Our strong dependence on petroleum based energy even with its spiralling cost has further complicated the issue.

With the advent of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy, locally produced goods will be forced to compete with imported goods from the other Caricom states. As Guyana enters this and other larger trading blocks in the future, the task will become more challenging and energy costs can very well determine the outcome.

The truth is there are many energy management systems that are available to commercial and industrial entities that can significantly reduce their energy bill which in turn will lead to an increase in profitability. In fact, a recent study done in Guyana found that the average industry can save almost twenty percent (20%) of the cost of their present electricity bill by implementing simple schemes. One such scheme operates automatically and has a payback period of less than eighteen months and a life span of in excess of ten years.
