The Police towing away one of the vehicles which smashed into Essential Shopping Centre yesterday morning killing an elderly woman. Â
A woman sleeping on the pavement was yesterday morning killed when two cars, both reportedly failing to stop at the critical intersection on Regent and Camp streets, collided and slammed into the pillars of Essential Shopping Centre at the corner.
Dead is 63-year-old, Petal Blair of Charlotte Street, Lacytown.

New city traffic lights needed -Harlequin

Although the police traffic department was successful in fixing one set of traffic lights in the city recently, there are calls for them to be scrapped altogether.
“There is need for new lights in the city, modern lights,” Traffic Chief Michael Harlequin told Stabroek News when contacted on Monday.
According to Harlequin, the current set of lights at several city intersections have been in existence for several decades and have outlived their usefulness.
Many of the city traffic signals have for months been non-functional.
