Streetlights along the main roadway within the parameters of Better Hope and Montrose, East Coast Demerara (ECD) would be powered shortly.
This is being done under a $241M project that aims to extend road lights along the ECD main roadway from Better Hope to Golden Grove, another initiative by government not only to ensure citizens comfort but also aid traffic safety and enhance security. Four hundred and twenty four lamps will be installed.
The project is being carried out by Cummings Electrical Company, which started the infrastructural works last month and is working towards its completion in June.
At present, the project is 25 percent into the work programme with 60 percent of the pile driving done and construction of concrete base ongoing throughout the route, according to Electrical Engineer of the executing company, Worren Lewis. Approximately 40 lamps will be in place by the end of today.
With the availability of resources, other roadways including the route from Timehri to Providence and from Golden Grove to West Coast Berbice will also benefit from road lights.
Government in keeping with its modernisation thrust has been expending a great deal of resources to execute various projects that will benefit citizens.
Its $102.9B Budget this year, the largest in the country’s history which is 19.1 percent higher than last year’s caters for many such projects.
