Govt mulls renewing interest in Amaila Falls project

Government may be inclined to pursue renewed interest in the Amaila Falls Hydroelectric project at the Kuribrong River, Region Eight, but this depends on the economic feasibility of the project.  This is according to Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, who has responsibility for the energy sector, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.      Â
The Prime Minister’s disclosure follows a presentation by the Amaila Falls Hydro-power Consortium on January 12 about the benefits of renewing interest in this project which was floated in 2000, but was not deemed feasible then because of low oil prices on the …

In the context of the current crime rate, most citizens feel that disease aside, if they were to meet an untimely end it would probably be at the hands of armed bandits. They would be wrong. As our story today on page 3 shows, an inhabitant of the coastal belt is more likely to be killed on the country’s roads than shot by gunmen, or murdered by anyone else for that matter. In 2005, when over 120 people were murdered, 182 lost their lives in traffic accidents. It is an astonishing statistic.Â
