US co. signs MOU for wind energy development

GINA - July 5th 2005

GuyRON Corporation, a company established in the United States of America, is the most recent entity that has expressed interest in exploring the supply of wind energy as an alternative source of power supply in Guyana.

The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with government yesterday to set the stage for its carrying out of data collection and analysis of wind resources at eight locations in Guyana.
The areas are Springlands, Vreed-en-Hoop, Leguan, Wakenaam, Hogg Island, Anna Regina, Charity and Shell Beach.

Prime Minister Sam Hinds and GuyRON head, Mr. Frankie Farley, an overseas-based Guyanese, signed the documents.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister noted that GuyRON expects to utilize the data to develop potential projects that would demonstrate the benefits of sustainable wind-generated energy.

GuyRON intends to organize a team of experts specialized in energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, resource management, finance and building design, to assist it in planning and implementing sustainable wind energy projects.

Mr. Hinds said GuyRON also intends to launch its wind energy farm project in Guyana, with the objective of promoting wind energy production and utilization within South America and to encourage through education the use of efficient and renewable energy technologies and practices in Guyana.

GuyRON’s interest in the exploitation of wind farms in Guyana adds to the growing list of companies seeking to develop the country’s renewable energy potential.

In 2001 Government signed a MOU with Delta Caribbean, granting the Dutch company the right to conduct feasibility studies at Hope Beach and along the Georgetown foreshore.

Delta Caribbean has made significant progress in its studies.

Prime Minister Hinds said government continues to welcome private sector interest and investment in energy in Guyana.
