Entrepreneurs stalled with traffic light proposal

A local group which has offered to reactivate non-functioning city traffic signals is still awaiting word from police authorities.

The group had around two months ago delivered a presentation on their system to a police team headed by Commissioner of Police Winston Felix.

At that time, while expressing satisfaction with the display, Felix had requested and subsequently received additional information, a principal of the company told Stabroek News.

The additional information had to do with the group’s ability to run parallel with the signals, sensors to pinpoint motorists who speed past intersections and those who jump the lights.

The police had promised to re-engage the team as soon as they had discussed the matter with other governmental authorities, Stabroek News understands.

The official also said that efforts have been made to reach the Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Anthony Xavier but these have been futile.

“We are ready to give a demo once the police give us an intersection which they can monitor to see how it works”, the official said.

Many traffic lights in the city and its environs have been down for sometime now.
